Sustainable Cities

Main content start

The rapid urbanization presents complex sustainability challenges that demand integrative solutions. The Sustainable Cities research theme investigates urban systems, focusing on how urban planning and infrastructure can be reimagined to foster sustainable resident lifestyle, urban resilience, and economic vitality.

We critically analyze the role of green infrastructure, smart technologies, and public space design in enhancing urban sustainability. In particular, we collaborate with Stanford School of Medicine in well-being research. We aim to develop models for cities that are not only environmentally sustainable but also socially inclusive and resilient to future climate challenges. Our recent research project on smart toilets through smart city infrastructure examples a unique collaboration between School of Medicine and Civil Engineering in terms of structure and well-being.
